About 50 Fort Carson Soldiers received an emotional homecoming Thursday night.

Soldiers with the 438th Medical Detachment Veterinary Services were welcomed home with loud cheers and signs, then hugs and kisses.

The soldiers were deployed to Afghanistan last June.

11 News met two families, whose soldiers saw their babies for the first time Thursday night.

“I can't even describe the emotions right now. I had her two days after he left and he got to see her on camera. It's been amazing trying to give him all the updates and everything about her,” said Alexis Fish.

Her husband, Staff Sgt. Joseph Fish, was overwhelmed with emotion as he held his daughter and kissed her for the first time.

“It’s hard to say, it’s incredible,” said Staff Sgt. Fish.

“It’s overwhelming; just to see them two together finally, it’s amazing,” said Alexis Fish.

We also met Rebekah Ruet, who had her baby boy two weeks after her husband was deployed.

“So emotional, I can’t even put it into words,” said Ruet.

Ruet’s daughter was wearing a t-shirt that said "I’ve waited 265 days to hug my dad."

And we talked to one mother who was greeted by her kids with flowers. Her kids were wearing t-shirts that said “I love my mommy.”

“I’m so happy to be home with them in my arms, it’s been entirely too long,” said Specialist Bozena Weber.

During deployment, the 438th supported coalition forces health protection by providing comprehensive veterinary services to include food safety and defense, animal health care, veterinary preventive medicine and stability operations.

"It's amazing, it's a good feeling. It's been a long trip,” said soldier Nathan Kuhnle.

His wife adds, “It’s a great feeling,” after giving him a running embrace.

“To be home with a mission well-accomplished, getting all my soldiers back, it's a good feeling,” said Captain Jessica Morehouse.
