DENVER (AP) -- Military dependents would get a break on college tuition under a bill that passed the Colorado House unanimously Tuesday.
The bill allows state colleges and universities the option of setting lower rates for students who don't qualify for in-state tuition because they moved away before graduation. Colleges could allow the lower tuition for students who attended at least two years at a Colorado high school within five years of college.
The measure now moves to the Senate. Many states make in-state tuition allowances for military dependents that move often and have a hard time establishing residency.
Earlier this session, House Republicans rejected a measure to allow a similar tuition category for illegal immigrants who are Colorado residents brought to this country as children.
