The budget battle in Washington is hitting close to home in some surprising ways.
The Air Force Academy is cancelling its popular 4th of July firework show due to uncertainties about future funding. It hopes to have the firework display next year.
A spokesman for the Academy says that with so many unknowns regarding the future budget, the school is looking for ways to save money.
The fireworks show isn't the only school tradition threatened by budget issues; cadets graduating in 2013 could graduate without the traditional Air Force Thunderbird flyover at the ceremony.
The Academy is also delaying more than two dozen construction projects -- including runway repairs -- to save nearly $29 million.
