"Can you find out what this is so I don't feel like I either need to hide from Godzilla himself or duck and cover from possible bombs?"
"They're so loud/forceful, they're rattling the windows."
"Weird booming sounds in Fountain right now...though someone was breaking into my house!"
11 News was inundated with questions Thursday night into Friday morning regarding "booming" sounds coming from the south end of Colorado Springs. People in several southern Colorado communities, not just Colorado Springs, reported hearing them.
Fort Carson has confirmed that they are conducting training on post, and will be for several more days. The training is expected to conclude on Labor Day, so for the remainder of the month, don't be alarmed if you continue to hear the booming noises.
Fort Carson says if you have a noise complaint, call 526-9849.
The Mountain Post released the following statement to us:
"The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, is conducting field training now through Sept. 1 on Fort Carson. The training includes day and night live-fire exercises that will incorporate armor, artillery, mortars, aviation training, Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Abrams tanks. Increased noise and dust levels from this training exercise can be expected throughout the training period due to live-fire events and heavy vehicle transportation. This training is crucial to the readiness of our Soldiers to train like they fight for any future contingencies. Noise complaints should be directed to the Fort Carson Public Affairs Office at (719) 526-5996"
