The names of 15 fallen heroes were added to the Fort Carson memorial wall Thursday, honored for making the ultimate sacrifice.
Every year, Fort Carson inscribes the names of each soldier who has lost their life fighting the Global War on Terror in Iraq or Afghanistan.
The memorial wall stands in Kit Carson Park on the Mountain Post, right outside the main gate. General Mark A. Graham, Commanding General Division West (First Army) and Fort Carson, spoke at the ceremony, commemorating the lives and service of the fallen soldiers.
The following soldiers were added to the Fort Carson Global War on Terror Memorial:
SGT Michael K. Clark
SPC Armando A. De La Paz
PFC Steven J. Fitzmorris
SPC Christopher T. Fox
Chief Warrant Officer III Robert C. Hammett
Major Mark E. Rosenberg
SSGT Timothy H. Walker
Warrant Officer I Judson E. Mount
SGT Darrell L. Fernandez
SPC Stephen M. Okray
SSGT Christopher G. Smith
SPC Stephen G. Zapasnik
SPC Kevin R. Dickson
SSGT Frank J. Gasper
SFC David Ezell
Families and friends huddled under a tent in the pouring rain and listened to the name of each of these soldiers being read in remembrance. After the ceremony, many loved ones approached the wall and traced the name of their soldier onto a paper they can keep... another way of remembering and honoring their fallen hero for making the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
