FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) -- About 30 soldiers at Fort Carson are saying goodbye as they get ready for a year in Iraq.
The soldiers from the 71st Explosive Ordnance Detachment planned a deployment ceremony Monday. They are headed to join thousands of Fort Carson soldiers already in Iraq. This detachment will be charged with defusing bombs.
More than 3,000 additional Fort Carson soldiers will head for war in late April and early May. That's when the 4th Brigade Combat team of the 4th Infantry Division leaves for a year of duty in Afghanistan.
