A former Fort Carson soldier and Iraqi war Veteran has been sentenced to 60 years behind bars.

Louis Bressler was sentenced Monday afternoon.

Bressler was sentenced to 40 years for conspiracy to commit murder in the shooting death of SPC Kevin Shields in December, 2007; 12 years to be served concurrently for his part in the August, 2007 murder of PFC Robert James; and 20 years for the aggravated robbery of Erica Ham.

Family members of all three victims were in the courtroom. Several of them spoke to the court before Bressler was sentenced.

"He's a coward. He has no honor and respect for life," said mother Debra Shields.

Bressler apologized to the families saying he is sorry for what he did.
