A suicide car bomb attack near the gates of a U.S. base in eastern Afghanistan has left one Afghan dead, and four others wounded.

A NATO spokesman says the attack targeted Forward Operating Base Chapman in Khost City, which is near the border with Pakistan.

Late last month 14 Afghan school children were killed by a bomb-laden truck that exploded outside another U.S. military post in the same province.
