The defense has rested in the murder trial of a former Fort Carson soldier accused of killing a fellow Iraq war veteran.

Louis Bressler is charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 1, 2007 death of 24-year-old Spc. Kevin Shields.

Bressler stood up in a Colorado Springs courtroom Friday and told a judge he would not be testifying in his own defense.

Forensic analysis expert John Koziol testified earlier Friday as part of a defense strategy to try to show that another soldier had shot Shields. Prosecutors cross-examined Koziol about blood spatter evidence and bullet angles in an attempt to discredit that theory.

Closing arguments are expected Friday afternoon.
