Brig. Gen. Samuel D. Cox has become the Air Force Academy's new commandant of cadets, the third-ranking officer at the prestigious school.
Cox was installed during a ceremony Wednesday.
He replaces Brig. Gen. Susan Y. Desjardins, who spent nearly three years in the post. Desjardins helped the school rebound from a sexual assault scandal, charges of religious intolerance and concerns over the school's honor code.
She has become deputy director for strategic plans, requirements and programs at the Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
Cox was previously director of the General Officer Management Office at the Pentagon, responsible for developing and positioning officers. He was promoted from colonel to brigadier general Wednesday morning.
