Ex-Ft. Carson Soldier Gets 48 Years For Conspiracy In 2 Murders

Bruce Alan Bastien, Jr. was sentenced to 48 years with 5 years probation for the murders of two fellow Ft. Carson soldiers. Bastien was also sentenced to 12 years for robbery charges. He will serve a total of 60 years.

Bastien Jr., a 22-year-old Iraq war veteran, pleaded guilty July 21 to three felony counts in the shooting deaths of Kevin Shields on December 1, 2007 and Robert James on August 4, 2007.

The second suspect in Shields' death, 24-year-old Kenneth Eastridge pleaded guilty July 11 to accessory to murder. He is expected to serve 10 years in prison.

The third suspect, 25-year-old Louis Bressler, is facing first degree murder charges in the murders of both Shields and James.

Eastridge and Bastien both agreed to testify against Bressler. He is scheduled to go to trial in Shields' homicide on Monday, September 29.
