Fort Carson Soldier Charged With Vehicular Homicide

A deadly crash last month left two people dead and landed a third in the hospital. A Fort Carson soldier now faces charges of vehicular homicide.

Khalil Sanders turned himself into authorities Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Records indicate he is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Police say that on August 12, 19-year-old Sanders failed to stop before driving through the intersection of Sawyer and Murray, and collided with a Saturn headed southbound on Murray. The force of impact caused both cars to roll, sending all three to the hospital.

The driver of the Saturn, 67-year-old Teddy Allison, and passenger Mary Ann Allison, 71, both died from their injuries. Their deaths are the 15th and 16th traffic fatalities of 2012. Sanders was treated and released the same day as the accident.

Police say that Sawyer is an eastbound one-way street at the Sawyer and Murray intersection, and that Sanders was headed down Sawyer in a westbound direction when he drove through the intersection.

Fort Carson confirmed to 11 News that Sanders is one of their soldiers.

Sanders faces two counts of vehicular homicide.
