Three Fort Carson soldiers were honored Thursday at the Mountain Post for their bravery and sacrifice during combat. They were awarded the Purple Heart.

Staff Sergeant Joseph James, Sergeant Timothy Puckett and Corporal Gabriel Pittman were wounded in April in Iraq.

Staff Sergeant James lost both of his legs when the humvee he was riding in was hit by an IED in Baghdad.

"I'm not getting down by what I'm going through. My wife is my heart and soul. She's the one helping me get through everything," said Staff Sgt. James.

The other two men were hurt when insurgents opened fire as they were searching a home in Mosul.

All three soldiers are from the Third Brigade Combat Team, Fourth Infantry Division.
