Two Fort Carson soldiers were honored Tuesday on post for their sacrifice and bravery during combat.
Specialist Jerry Cherini was injured while on combat patrol in Balad, Iraq. He was awarded with the Purple Heart for his service.
Private First Class Jason Carten received the Bronze Star with a 'V' device, which marks the award as a Medal of Valor and is only given out when a soldier shows acts of combat heroism.
Within the first four months of his deployment PFC Carten discovered and detonated 50 IEDs.
Lt. Gen. Eric Schoomaker, surgeon general of the Army, presented the awards to the soldiers.
