CIA Director Michael Hayden will hang up his Air Force uniform for good in July.

The four-star general said today that he is retiring after 39 years in the service.

Hayden will continue as the agency's director as a civilian.

His decision to remain in the military after becoming CIA director in 2006 raised some concerns in Congress and the intelligence community.
