A somber day on Fort Carson Thursday as family and friends paid their final respects to soldiers lost in combat.

A memorial service at the Mountain Post Thursday honored members of the Raider Brigade who died while serving our country in Afghanistan.

Fourteen soldiers who lost their lives in the line duty are being remembered. Here are the names of those memorialized in Thursday's service:

Capt. Chaplain Dale A. Goetz
1st Lt. Mark A. Noziska
SSG Kevin J. Kessler
SSG Jesse Infante
SSG Casey J. Grochowiak
SGT Carlos A. Benitez
SGT Robert C. Sisson
SGT Ken K. Hermogino
SPC Timothy L. Johnson
SPC Rafael Martinez Jr.
SPC Pedro Millet-Meletiche
PFC Chad D. Clements
PFC Tramaine J. Billingsley
PFC Eric D. Soufrine

Surviving members of the Raider Brigade returned this summer from their fourth deployment. About 500 soldiers were in attendance at the memorial this morning to pay their respects to those who fought alongside them.

"They paid the ultimate sacrifice, and so, the least we can do...the least we can do is to have them a memorial and honor them as best we can," SPC Joshua Clare said.

Wreaths were laid at the photos of the 14 soldiers.
