A woman was forced at gunpoint to walk from her apartment complex to a nearby park.
There, police say she was sexually assaulted.
The woman was walking in the Greentree Village Apartments parking lot at 10:30 p.m. Friday when she said the stranger came up to her and showed his gun. He made her walk to Village Green Park behind the complex.
After assaulting her, the suspect fled and the victim called police. Her current condition is unknown.
"It is troubling when someone is just minding their own business and that just happens anywhere in public like that," neighbor Corrie Cunningham said.
The suspect is described as a black man in his early to mid 20s, 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall, last seen wearing a dark-colored t-shirt over a gray long-sleeved shirt and black pants.
The park is located near North Carefree Circle and North Academy.
Police say try to stay well lit areas and walk in pairs or in a group when possible. They also always suggest staying aware of your surroundings anytime, day or night.
"That's something that we teach all of our new police officers at the police academy. Be aware of what's going on around you," CSPD Sgt. John Koch said. "A lot of times were guilty of getting tunnel vision or being so familiar with that area that it doesn't really stand out to us if something is out of the ordinary."
If you have any information on the suspect's whereabouts or the attack, call Colorado Springs police right away.
