Investigators are looking into the possibility that a small fire in Manitou Springs was intentionally set.
The call came in at 9:28 p.m. Thursday about a fire near the water treatment plant. The fire was 40 feet by 40 feet. Manitou Fire Department, El Paso County Wildland Fire Crew, U.S. Forest Service and Crystal Park Fired Department responded to the call.
It took a little bit of time to find the fire because it was burning in light fuel. Once firefighters found the burn area, they were able to get it under control quickly. The fire was out before 11 p.m.
Investigators are now working to rule out the possibility that it was intentionally set.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office say it's standard procedure to call in arson investigators when on-scene firefighters can't quickly determine the cause and origin of a fire.
