Customers may have to cut back on how much water they use if southern Colorado has another dry winter this year.

Managers with Colorado Springs Utilities said Wednesday they are already planning for the possibility of mandatory watering schedules in 2013.

They're watching the levels of the reservoirs that supply customers in the city. With an extended period of warm weather in the region, snow pack levels this winter could be below average. If so, it is possible restrictions could go back in place.

The last time restrictions were put in place by Colorado Springs Utilities following an extended drought was 2002.

Experts at Colorado Springs Utilities will check snowpack levels around March of next year before making an official decision on water restrictions.
