A wanted fugitive and a second suspect are behind bars after allegedly attempting to outrun deputies Friday night.
The Fremont County Sheriff's Office says they were called to the Lincoln Park area of Canon City on reports of a man and woman trying to break into cars. When deputies got there, they saw 20-year-old Jaylene Ratliff and 34-year-old Shane Eacker walking in the area. Both allegedly took off running after deputies contacted them.
Deputies say they caught up to Eacker first, but while struggling to detain him his pitbull bit one of the deputies on the leg.
Ratliff ran and hid inside an elderly woman's home, deputies say, but they were able to find her and take her into custody after a short struggle. Ratliff does not have a relationship with the woman.
The sheriff's office had been looking for Ratliff since mid-April, and had named her one of the county's "most wanted." Ratliff faces charges of burglary, possession of an illegal weapon, resisting arrest and several drug charges.
Eacker faces a long list of charges: unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of a dangerous/illegal weapon, resisting arrest, possession of a dangerous dog, possession of drug paraphernalia, and also was wanted on two unrelated traffic warrants.
The injured deputy received medical treatment for the dog bite.
