A Springs dentist office became the scene of a SWAT negotiation, as officers tried to coax an "armed and dangerous" fugitive out of the building.
Employees were still at the office Thursday evening when police say 27-year-old Andrew Stiern burst into Comfort Dental on 3952 N. Academy, trying to hide from police officers right on his tail. Police had been chasing Stiern since spotting him leaving his apartment a block away.
The situation became more surreal for the staff as police followed the man inside, then escorted the employees out after reportedly determining Stiern was armed.
Stiern attempted to escape officers through the roof, but the attempted was thwarted after he fell through the ceiling. Police say he then barricaded himself inside a bathroom and refused to surrender. SWAT was called to the scene.
After negotiations with SWAT, police say Stiern turned himself in.
Officers had originally been trying to take Stiern into custody for three active felony warrants. After his attempt to elude police and the ensuing standoff, police say Stiern is facing additional charges.
