Walsenburg Fire Department has confirmed that a house fire has destroyed a home on Pennsylvania Ave. near I-25 and Highway 160.

The fire chief says the homeowner had some electrical issues Monday night, then smelled smoke coming from his attic and called 911.

When firefighters went into the house to investigate, they say the fire suddenly spread. One of the firefighter's helmets was singed so bad he can't use it anymore. He was not injured.

There was one man living inside of the home, but nobody was hurt.

Neighbors had to evacuate while firefighters worked to put the blaze out. The fire chief says they stayed through the night to put out hot spots.
