Police Chief James Chamberlain
The police chief of Walsenburg is stepping down.
Chief James Chamberlain submitted his letter of resignation on Wednesday night. A lieutenant with the department says Chamberlain did not give a public reason why he’s stepping down. His resignation is effective on March 14.
The city manager will first name an interim chief while the city searches for a permanent chief.
Chamberlain has been police chief for the last three years and has worked for the department for 13 years.
He was involved in the chase with the Dougherty siblings in 2011. He said in court documents that he feared for his life.
