The University of Colorado Colorado Springs wants to hire a new provost by July. The current provost, Margaret “Peg” Bacon, plans to retire on July 1 after 34 years at UCCS.
Bacon announced her intent to retire Tuesday during a meeting with the deans of the six UCCS colleges and the Kraemer Family Library.
She joined the UCCS faculty in 1978 as an assistant professor of education and later served as a dean, a vice chancellor and then provost.
“I have had a wonderful career at UCCS,” Bacon said. “I feel as though I have blossomed as a professional along with our campus growth. This is an exciting time for UCCS, and while I would enjoy being part of it, I am looking forward to transitioning to the next phase of my life.”
The members of a search committee tasked with finding the next provost are expected to be named by February 15.
