The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID) confirmed today that Special Agents are investigating the death of a Fort Carson Soldier who was found dead in his on-post home on March 4, 2013.
Although foul play is not suspected at this point in the investigation, CID has not completely ruled it out in order to conduct a complete and thorough investigation. They are not releasing any further details at this time.
That man has been identified as Master Sgt. Joseph P. Bascio. Bascio, who was assigned to the 759th Military Police Battalion, served three deployments in Iraq and was a 25-year Army veteran.
Fort Carson released a statement today saying : "Fort Carson is saddened by the loss of one of our Soldiers, and our
condolences go out to Master Sgt. Bascio's family. "
CID agents are also investigating allegations of a recent sexual assault involving personnel from Fort Carson.
At this point, CID is not confirming if this investigation and the death investigation cited above are linked.
