A woman and child are dead after a rollover accident on I-25 just north of Trinidad.
Five people, all from Raton, New Mexico, were riding inside the Toyota Camry Sunday night as it headed southbound on I-25. According to the Colorado State Patrol, driver Shannon Romero suddenly went off the road and collided with a guardrail. She then over-corrected and rolled three times.
Romero, 30, and two children, 10 and 12, were all wearing their seatbelts and survived the crash with minor to moderate injuries. Romero was airlifted to Colorado Springs, while the two others were taken to Mount San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad.
A 12-year-old boy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. A 68-year-old woman was airlifted to St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, where she later died.
Alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the crash.
