14-Year-Old Killed In Rollover

A deadly rollover in east El Paso County tragically cut short the life of a teenage girl.

Jae Ellis was just 14 years old when she was killed Wednesday night. Troopers say she was wearing a seat belt.

Sixteen-year-old Jourdan Ellis, who was behind the wheel, was transported after the crash with life-threatening injuries. It's unknown if he was buckled up.

According to Colorado State Patrol, Jourdan was headed eastbound on Funk Road, nearly 2 1/2 miles east of Calhan Highway, just before 8 p.m. when he lost control and drove off the road. His vehicle then spun and rolled into a fence.

The superintendent of Calhan School District RJ-1 tells 11 News a crisis team will be on hand Thursday to help students deal with Jae's death. Jae was a freshman at Calhan High School. She and Jourdan, a junior, were reportedly on their way home from the school after Jourdan's football practice.

Troopers say there's no indication at this time that alcohol, drugs, speeding or texting played a role in the crash. They are working to determine what caused Jourdan to lose control.
