Three people are dead after an accident involving a semi-truck Sunday morning.
The accident happened in a construction zone on Interstate 70 about 13 miles east of Glenwood Springs at approximately 5:30 a.m. All lanes of I-70 were closed for about four hours.
Colorado State Patrol said that an Audi was going east in the westbound lane when it hit a King Soopers semi-truck head-on. All three people in the Audi died at the scene.
State Patrol said it is not releasing the names of the two woman and one man because their families still have to be notified.
The driver of the semi was not hurt.
State Patrol said the roads were wet at the time of the crash. The cause is under investigation.
State Patrol said that construction along I-70 in the area of Glenwood Canyon has reduced traffic to one lane in each direction. That means that eastbound traffic is being diverted into what would normally be a westbound lane. The construction zone is about six miles long.
