Thanksgiving ended in an arrest for one Springs man after police say he threatened his mother and cousin with a shotgun.
The situation began just after 1:30 p.m. when the suspect's mother called to report that her son was carrying around a gun and making threats. She didn't want to leave the home because she feared the safety of her 13-year-old granddaughter, who was bedridden.
Police officers surrounded the home on Madison Street, near Union and Constitution, as they tried to get the suspect to surrender. Neighbors told 11 News they were stunned to see so much law enforcement.
"All of a sudden I saw these cop cars...they had the big shields and they were, like, rushing the house," Ina Meyer said. She told 11 News she was terrified for her children's safety because she worried there could be a shooting.
Police were eventually able to convince the suspect to come to the door, and arrested him without incident.
The suspect has been identified as Jeffrey Mascarenas. He faces several charges, including menacing and possessing an illegal weapon.
