Moderate snow continues to fall for some areas of northern El Paso and Teller Counties, accumulating in the grass and yards. Meanwhile, in the plains and along the southern I-25 stretch, light rain/snow mix continues. Take it slow on the roadways - due to VERY strong winds, we are seeing blowing dirt and snow (depending on the region), which is tremendously reducing visibility. A fake tweet stating that the president had been injured in a explosion at the White House caused a few minutes of panic Tuesday.
The tweet, which appeared to come from the Associated Press, was denounced quickly enough that the tweet didn't register as legitimate breaking news for many news outlets. But in the few minutes before Twitter pulled it, the markets panicked; the Dow Jones plummeted after the tweet went out, falling 143 points. It quickly bounced back after the AP confirmed it had been hacked.
The tweet said that there had been two explosions at the White House, and President Obama was hurt.
White House spokesman Jay Carney also confirmed the tweet was erroneous.
The Syrian Electronic Army has claimed responsibility for the hack, saying that it was done as a protest against the media's coverage of Syria's opposition. Their involvement has not been confirmed; the FBI is still investigating.
