Suspect Injured In Officer-Involved Shooting

A 40-minute standoff Sunday morning ended in gunfire.

Aurora police say officers were forced to shoot the suspect after he pointed a shotgun at them.

The situation reportedly began as a domestic dispute. A woman called police at 5 a.m. to report that a man was standing her front yard with a shotgun.

The suspect drove off before police reached the Jamaica Street home, but an officer spotted the vehicle nearby and followed it until he had backup. The suspect led police back to the home on Jamaica Street, where officers contacted him in his car.

Police say the suspect became belligerent, for 40 minutes refusing to obey police commands and disregarding the warnings officers repeatedly gave him.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after police were forced to shoot him. No officers were injured.

The shooting is now under investigation by the Aurora Major Crimes/Homicide Unit, as is routine in all officer-involved shootings. After that investigation is completed, it will be reviewed by the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office.

The suspect's name has not been released.
