A man is accused of starting a fire in his own home on Kachina Drive in the Cimarron Hills area of El Paso County.

Clay Cline

Flames ripped through a home east of the Springs Wednesday night, destroying the structure and leaving a man and his two dogs without a home.

Now investigators believe it was the homeowner that started the fire.

Clay Cline was arrested Friday night on charges of first-degree arson, and remains in jail as of Saturday morning on a $10,000 bond.

Arson investigators from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office have been on scene since Thursday morning, once was it deemed safe to enter the home. They have not said why they believe Cline is responsible for the fire.

Cline lives on Kachina Drive, which is no stranger to fires--there have been about seven fires on that same street in the past two years, ranging from other house fires to fires in brush and trees on the street.

In December, there were two fires at the same mobile home within 24 hours.

At this time, Cline has only been charged with the fire at his home Wednesday night. Investigators have not established a connection between any of the fires, though the Cimarron Hills fire chief told 11 News that all of the fires are considered suspicious.
