An active duty Ft. Carson soldier is behind bars after police say he assaulted and attempted to kidnap a Springs woman.

The victim, 30, was getting into her car in downtown Colorado Springs near Acacia Park around 12:30 a.m. Saturday when 28-year old Matthew Warren allegedly climbed into her backseat and forced her to start driving. Police say Warren threatened to hurt her if she didn't comply.

The victim immediately got out of car and tried to run away. Warren allegedly jumped out and chased after her. Police say when he caught up to her, he punched her in the face.

A cab driver in the area helped police find Warren, who was then taken into custody.

Warren faces several charges including attempted second-degree kidnapping.
