An employee at a home for juveniles has been accused of sexually assaulting a child under her care.
Amanda Santos, 32, has been arrested and charged with sexual assault on a child by one in the position of trust.
Santos heard the charges against her during a video advisement Tuesday afternoon.
“Sexual assault on a child by one in the position of trust,” the judge read in his statement to Santos, who stood in orange clothing provided to inmates at the county jail.
She pleaded to be released in her response.
"I’m also a single mother of three children,” she said. “I would like to ask that I be put on house arrest with an ankle bracelet so I can return to my babies, please?”
What put her in jail is outlined in arrest papers obtained by 11 News.
They show late last year a 17-year-old boy arrived at the Nevada House, which is a group home in Colorado Springs for juveniles in the custody of the El Paso County Department of Human Services (DHS).
The teen, who is now 18, claims Santos pursued him romantically, asking him when he'd turn 18. It led to an alleged sexual encounter at the home in December of 2012.
The teenager says he later began getting text messages from Santos. An online search of the number goes directly to an escort service profile featuring suggestive pictures of Amanda Santos herself.
According to police, the alleged sexual assault was reported on April 19.
Police say the victim was reluctant to come forward because the suspect was a supervisor at the home; he was afraid he wouldn't be believed or that he would get in trouble.
Santos was arrested following a four-month investigation. The charges she faces are felony charges.
She is still being held at CJC.
