High Fire Danger Today

A Springs mother is hoping for answers after she says her seven year old left his elementary school Thursday afternoon.

The Wildflower Elementary first grader was apparently not feeling well. He went to the nurse's office and was sent back to class.

It is unclear if he went back to class and then left or simply walked out of the school from the nurse's office. He did go home before school was out, without permission and allegedly without anyone noticing he wasn't there.

Jacqueline Knight, his mother, contacted 11 News and says she was appalled that he could just walk out the door. She was further disgusted when she says the school didn't call until about two and half hours later to ask her if she had seen her son.

"How do you not know he's been gone? He's been gone for two and a half hour and you guys are just now noticing?" Knight asked.

According to Knight's recollection, her son came home around noon and the school called just before 2:30 p.m.

One of her biggest concerns is that someone could have snatched him or hit him as he was crossing the street. The Harrison District Two spokesperson told us they investigated the situation to find out exactly what happened.

Knight kept her first grader home from school Friday and met with school officials about the incident. She says school officials told her that the situation with her son was a miscommunication and they are working on new policies to ensure this does not happen again.

Knight says she's waiting to hear exactly what the school's new policies are before sending her son back to Wildflower Elementary. She's hopeful he could be back in class as soon as early next week.
