Investigators are waiting until daylight to enter the home where flames broke out late Wednesday night--but say it's already clear the house is a total loss.

Sgt. Joe Roybal with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office tells 11 News the delay is for the investigators' safety. Smoke could still be seen drifting from the home hours after firefighters put the fire out. Crews remain on scene watching for hotspots.

Neighbors on Kachina Drive, where the fire occurred, smelled smoke just before 11 p.m. and called 911. The house was already engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene.

Crews were able to put the fire out in about an hour. No one was home at the time.

It's not the first fire on Kachina Drive in the last couple of years. Cimarron Hills Fire Chief Matt Love couldn't give an exact number, but told 11 News there have been several on the street: some structure fires, some in nearby bushes. As recently as December two fires broke out at the same mobile home within a 24-hour period.

"We've had a variety of fires and they have been ruled suspicious. However, I have not received a final determination of the cause...but all of them were suspicious fires over the last couple of years," Love said.

El Paso County investigators are assisting Cimarron Hills. The Sheriff's Office calls in their investigative team whenever the fire looks suspicious.
