Stranger Sexually Assaults Woman In Her Own Backyard

A woman attacked in her own backyard--and her assailant still out there.

According to police, the woman was smoking a cigarette late Monday night when a stranger appeared out of nowhere.

"She's not sure where he came from," Sgt. Stinson with the Colorado Springs Police Department told 11 News.

Police say the suspect struck her in the face--possibly with his fist--then forced her to the ground. Holding her at knifepoint, he then sexually assaulted her.

The man disappeared before police arrived, but the woman was able to provide a detailed description of him. The suspect was reportedly dressed head-to-toe in black, including a ski mask concealing his face. He is described as 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, and is believed to be a white male.

Police K-9s searched the area, and officers went door-to-door asking if anyone had seen or heard anything. Police were unable to locate him.

"He's attacking people in a neighborhood in the middle of the night," Stinson said when asked how concerning it was that the suspect was still on the loose. "Very dangerous."

The incident happened on Diamond Rim Drive, which is in the North Gate area of Colorado Springs. If you have any information about this crime, call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
