State Patrol: DUI Driver Hit Patrol Vehicle

A man accused of driving under the influence of drugs allegedly hit a trooper's cruiser, according to Colorado State Patrol.

A spokeswoman for CSP said Keith Kilbey, 23 or Arvada is suspected of being under the influence of marijuana at the time of the accident. He was cited and taken to a detox center.

State patrol would did not say if pot was found in Kilbey's vehicle because the investigation is ongoing.

Two Colorado State Patrol vehicles had their lights on and were blocking the left lane of the I-76 on-ramp from northbound I-25 just north of Denver. They were responding to a crash.

State Patrol said Kilbey, who was driving a Chevy truck, hit the trooper's cruiser so hard that it was pushed into a second state patrol vehicle.

The troopers were not inside the vehicles when the accident happened.

Neither trooper was hurt and Kilbey is being charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

The incident happened around 9:00 p.m. Saturday, just weeks after a trooper was injured when a van drifted onto the shoulder of I-70 and hit a patrol vehicle.

It is unacceptable that troopers and their vehicles continue to be hit on our roadways," Corporal H. Cobler said in a news release.

State Patrol said it is asking people to be "responsible, sober and focused driver" and to slow down when approaching emergency vehicles.
