A Springs neighborhood can now sleep in peace after a standoff situation, which blocked off their streets for several hours Wednesday night, came to an end.
The standoff happened off Dublin Road just a block east of Union. A portion of Dublin was blocked off for several hours as the standoff situation was handled.
Police tell 11 News they received a domestic violence call just after 7 p.m. Officers safely got the woman and her three children out of the house.
The man inside the house was last seen by the victims getting some ammo, and was known to have a gun inside the house. For that reason, police and SWAT set up a perimeter around the house and blocked off the street.
No residents were evacuated, but some called us and said they couldn't get back to their homes for a few hours.
The man was believed to be barricading himself inside the home, but officers could not make contact. They tried calling by phone, knocking on door, and using a mega phone.
Shortly before 10 p.m. investigators found the man hiding behind a shed in the backyard. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Police say he was either suffering from hypothermia, or a possible overdose.
The man, identified as 45-year-old Paul Gilman, will be charged with misdemeanors for the domestic violence and a felony charge for possessing a weapon as a previous offender.
The woman suffered only minor injuries. The children were uninjured.
The road reopened around 10:15 p.m.
