Family and friends of a teen who was accidentally shot to death came together during a candlelight vigil in her honor.
Springs police say 14-year-old Kiana Rae O'Neil was shot and killed by her stepfather two days before Christmas after he mistook her for a burglar. She was reportedly climbing through a window at the time.
According to an obituary in the Alamosa Valley Courier, a vigil and mass was held Saturday at the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara. Another vigil has held at Springs Ranch Park.
Kiana was a resident of Colorado Springs at the time of her death, and was a student at Vista Ridge High School.
The district attorney’s office is still deciding whether Kiana's stepfather will face charges.
11 News talked with neighbors on Monday night after the shooting.
"This is so tragic. I can't imagine what that family is going through at this point," neighbor Mike Tague said.
