Drivers should expect lane closures and slower speeds north of the Woodmen exit in Colorado Springs beginning Sunday night.
CDOT is beginning an interstate widening project, and will require overnight closures between Woodmen and Monument over the next couple of weeks so that contractors can take soil and pavement samples.
Sunday, all but one lane on northbound I-25 will be closed for a mile, beginning just north Woodmen. This will start at 8:30 p.m. and last until 5:30 a.m. According to CDOT, the lane closure will inch closer and closer to Monument each day until Friday, Feb. 8. Sunday, Feb. 10, the project will shift to the southbound lanes, starting in Monument and moving closer to Woodmen each day.
During this time, the speed limit on the closed stretch of interstate will be reduced to 65 mph.
The actual interstate widening project is scheduled to begin in March.
