Couple happy to be reunited after a year apart. Eighty soldiers with the 569th Engineer Company out of Fort Carson returned home Wednesday night after a deployment to Afghanistan.

Their return home may have been delayed two days, but it didn't put a damper on those soldiers' homecoming when the moment finally arrived.

"Oh it feels amazing," one soldier told 11 News when asked what it was like to be home. He was returning from his fourth deployment.

Eighty soldiers with the 569th Engineer Company, 4th Engineer Battalion arrived home Wednesday night after a year in Afghanistan. Fort Carson says the soldiers cleared more than 16,000 miles of routes in an area roughly the size of Maryland and neutralized more then 250 improvised explosive devices. The unit boasted the best success rate with IEDs by troops in Afghanistan, and allowed troops to accomplish missions without IED casualties, Fort Carson says.

Their contribution also allowed the Regional Command-South to conduct an operation in a district that ground troops had been unable to access for three years.
