It wasn't your ordinary assembly held at a Colorado Springs elementary school Tuesday, and the teacher in the spotlight had no idea of the surprise awaiting her.
Teacher Gina Oellig received a prestigious award during the assembly and it came as a complete surprise.
The Milken Family Foundation chose Oellig to receive its Milken Educator Award, an honor that carries with it a $25,000 check.
Oellig is a first-grade teacher at Soaring Eagle Elementary School within the Harrison District 2 system.
