DENVER -- The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is notifying customers of Groovy Greens in Niwot and Sweet Pea Restaurant in Steamboat Springs that they may have been exposed to Hepatitis A.

Exposure has been linked to smoothies made at those restaurants that may have contained the recently recalled Organic Antioxidant Blend frozen berry mix by Townsend Farms that was sold at Costco warehouses in several western states - including Colorado.

Twenty-two cases of Hepatitis A have been identified in Colorado residents. So far no Hepatitis A cases have been directly linked with the consumption of smoothies at either restaurant. The owners of both establishments stopped using the berries as soon as they were notified of the public health risk.

Customers of Sweet Pea Restaurant, 729 Yampa St. in Steamboat Springs who consumed a “Berry Blast” smoothie sold between May 24 and June 8 may have been exposed to hepatitis A.

Customers of Groovy Greens smoothie delivery service, serving the Boulder and Longmont area, who consumed a smoothie sold between April 15 and May 31 may also have been exposed to hepatitis A.

If you fall into either of these two groups, you are advised to watch for symptoms of illness and to contact your doctor if you feel you may be sick.

Boulder County health officials also request that Groovy Greens customers contact them if they still have smoothies that were prepared prior to May 31.
