A FLASH FLOOD WATCH will go into effect at NOON and last through MIDNIGHT from most of Southern Colorado. Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be more than capable of producing very heavy rain once again. Burn scars and areas that saw heavy rain yesterday will be under the greatest risk for flash flooding. The 11 Breaking Weather Team will be tracking this threat all day for you.
A plume of smoke could be seen for miles Wednesday evening after a fire started in the mountains west of Canon City.
Despite the visible smoke, the Fremont County Sheriff's Office says the fire was less than an acre in size.
The fire was burning about three miles west of the Ecology Park parking lot. The park is located off Temple Canyon Road. Due to the location, firefighters were forced to hike in order to reach it.
Our crew first noticed the smoke around 5 p.m., and noted that it appeared to be dying down around 5:45 p.m. At this time, there is no word on what caused the fire.
No structures were ever threatened.
