A fire burning about nine miles outside of Canon City is not expected to grow, but firefighters are still keeping a close eye on it.
The Shemp Fire is located near Curly Peak in the northern Wet Mountains. That is southwest of Canon City.
Fire managers investigated the fire from the air Saturday, and determined that it is not likely to grow or spread. Firefighters will continue to keep an eye on the fire, but are not directly fighting it.
The fire was reported Thursday, Sept. 5. It has burned less than a quarter of an acre in rugged terrain. It is not threatening any structures.
Fire officials say cooler temperatures, higher relative humidity and the chance for rain will also help keep the fire from spreading.
