A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. Several inches of accumulation will be possible in areas where these bands develop. For more information click the ‘Weather’ tab...
Crews have a small fire burning in Huerfano County fully contained Tuesday afternoon.
Flames were first spotted Monday on Greenhorn Mountain, north of Highway 69, 16 miles northwest of Walsenburg. Lightning in the area kept crews from being able to reach the fire early on, but they were eventually able to reach it by the evening.
BLM fire personnel will remain on the incident for the remainder of the day to secure fire lines and complete mop-up operations.
Authorities say the fire is burning in "very" rough terrain and is not threatening any structures. Lightning is believed to be the cause.
