One thousand civilian employees at the Air Force Academy are on
furlough right now.
The superintendent explained this is completely disruptive to the base. Many of those employees are teachers, forcing them to suspend 60 classes.
The Academy is working to figure out how this will impact graduation requirements for certain cadets. All intercollegiate sports have been cancelled. However, the AFA football team will compete against Navy this Saturday in Maryland
That's only possible because the USAA company provided funds to the Pentagon to make it happen.
The superintendent expressed that even though the long term affects of this shutdown aren't clear , they have a list of priorities like
safety and security that they'll continue to carry out.
As the Air Force Academy learns more about the consequences of
this shutdown, they plan to keep us notified of any changes.
