A man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl was an employee in the state prison system at the time.
The Colorado Department of Corrections, however, will not comment on what Ricardo Lee Fortson's title was.
According to Canon City police, the victim was sexually assaulted while at a sleepover at a friend's house in August. Suspect Fortson was 40 years old at the time; the victim was just 14.
Police were alerted to the crime by a local health care facility. Arrest papers obtained by 11 News say that DNA obtained at the scene matched Fortson's DNA.
After a three-month investigation, Fortson was arrested on November 14 and faces charges of sexual assault on a child. He is currently being held at the Fremont County Detention Center on a $6,000 bond.
The case remains under investigation. Investigators ask anyone with information about what happened to come forward. One can call the Canon City Police Department at 276-5600 or Crime Stoppers at 275-STOP.
