A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a registered sex offender.
According to Colorado Springs police, the suspect was pulled over after an officer spotted him make an illegal u-turn at the intersection of North Academy and North Carefree just before 1:20 a.m. It was only after the officer contacted the driver that he realized it was a sex offender who was currently wanted for failing to report his address change to authorities.
Police say the suspect, Jarell Askew, is registered as a sex offender but failed to report his change of address after moving. That is required by law for all registered sex offenders.
Askew was charged with failure to register, which is a felony. Police say this is his second such charge.
